Developing Global Citizenship Through ELT
Jair Félix  Senior Academic Consultant National Geographic Learning

‘Think global, act local’ is a world-famous slogan that has been attributed to Sir Patrick Geddes, the Scottish biologist who was also an innovative thinker in urban planning and education. The words are part of a legacy which has influenced education for global citizenship today. This presentation focuses on how to help students develop awareness on the wider world and their own role as a world citizen through English language teaching. It looks at the three essential areas required to develop global citizenship traits including global knowledge, global skills and global values. The presentation showcases different activities and demonstrates how language teachers can integrate global citizenship into their English instruction.
